IES exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) once a year. A student is eligible for appearing in IES exams after the completion of graduation in engineering in any of the following departments:
1.Electrical Engineering
2. Civil Engineering
3.Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The candidates should attain the age between 21 years to 30 years. However, there is Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC applicants. Students appearing for the final year are also eligible to appear in IES exam.
Limit of Number of Attempts in the Exams
In general category a student can attempt four times for the exams.
Candidates belongs to OBC can attempt for seven times.
Candidates belongs to SC/ST can attempt for nine times.

Pattern of Exam
The written exam consists of two sections- objective and subjective papers and each paper consist of 200 marks.
